Early pilot evidence
Early Pilot Evidence
Beyond Differences is currently a small pilot. We are testing whether structured dialogue can make conversations across different communities easier and more comfortable.
Important limitation
These results come from a small pilot and should not be presented as proof of wider population impact.

Week 3 pilot
The figures currently available
All figures below are limited to the verified Week 3 review.

Verified Week 3 participants
Consented participants in the Week 3 pilot.

3.29 → 4.43
Q1 average
Average self-reported comfort discussing ethnicity before and after the dialogue among paired numeric responses.
Reported movement: +1.14
Sensitivity range: +0.86 to +1.14
The range reflects uncertainty from reconstructed lower-confidence pairings after participant-code failures. This is a small pilot, not population-level causal evidence.
Q1 result
Self-reported comfort discussing ethnicity
Week 3 pilot results showed an increase in average self-reported comfort discussing ethnicity, from 3.29/5 before the dialogue to 4.43/5 afterwards among the paired numeric responses.
Reported movement: +1.14
Sensitivity range: +0.86 to +1.14
The range reflects uncertainty from reconstructed lower-confidence pairings after participant-code failures. This is a small pilot, not population-level causal evidence.

Public evidence trend
Week 3 to Week 4
The reported movement became smaller as the measurement and analysis became more rigorous. Week 3 reported movement was +1.14, Week 4 full-cohort movement was +0.43, and excluding the largest single mover (BD-09) produced a robustness result of -0.17.

Week 4 robustness check
-0.17
Excluding BD-09
BD-09 remains included in the primary Week 4 analysis. The -0.17 figure is a robustness and sensitivity check, not the primary result.
These figures are early pilot evidence and should not be interpreted as population-level proof or causal evidence. Week 3 and Week 4 records are presented as separate analyses and are not combined.
Project development
Verified milestones since the project began
No pre-project history is included. Dates are shown only where supplied.
25 July 2026
Project started
Beyond Differences began as a team project on the 2026 Grassroots Internships.
Early pilot
Pilot activities conducted
The team conducted early activities to develop and test the project.
Project development
Dialogue Kit Version 1 developed
The team developed the first version of its structured dialogue guide.
Project development
Before-and-after measurement introduced
The pilot introduced paired self-reported measurement around the dialogue.
Project development
Consent process strengthened
The team strengthened how consent is handled during the pilot.
Week 3 review
Week 3 pilot analysed
The team analysed the available Week 3 pilot responses and documented the sensitivity range created by reconstructed lower-confidence pairings after participant-code failures.
Week 4 field test
Dialogue Kit Version 2 transferred
An outside facilitator used Dialogue Kit Version 2 to run the Week 4 session. Seven participants completed the paired measurement, with participants drawn from three universities.
